When we arrived yesterday, we’d organised with Debbie, our hostess, to have breakfast at 8:30 so we could sleep in. She served us breakfast on the balcony outside our room looking out over the ocean. This was very pleasant (although a bit cool because of the slight breeze). Debbie said the forecast maximum today was 27C. I found this hard to believe (but it turned out to be about right).
After breakfast, we headed off for Freycinet National Park which is about 40km south of Bicheno. Our plan was to walk to Wineglass Bay via the lookout. The sign said this would take between 2.5 and 3 hours.
We set off up the hill at 11:20am and reached the lookout half an hour later. It only took another half hour to get down the other side to the beach. The tourist guides were right – it’s a very pretty spot.
It was too cold to swim and so we soon headed off for the return journey back up the hill. We were back in the car by 2pm.
For lunch, we went to the café at the Freycinet Lodge which is at Richardson Beach near Coles Bay. A very pleasant lunch with a nice view.
Later in the afternoon, we went for a walk along the coast of Bicheno. We walked a loop from the township, east and then south along the coast to the blowhole and then back into town.
Back in the unit, we watched the end of the cricket for the day on TV and then tried out the spa in our unit.
The dinner at Seasons Restaurant was very good indeed. It was much better than you would expect for a restaurant in a motel in a country town. My meal was one of the best restaurant meals that I’ve had in a long time.
